SAG RELEASES LETTER PLEDGING SUPPORT TO
CANADIAN ACTORS' EQUITY ASSOCIATION'S EFFORT TO
UNIONIZE PRODUCTION OF TORONTO BLUE MAN GROUP
Los
Angeles (June 28, 2005) - Screen Actors Guild (SAG) today
released a letter that pledges its full support to Canadian
Actors' Equity Association (CAEA) and its ongoing effort to
bring a nonunion Toronto production of Blue Man Group to the
negotiating table. SAG President Melissa Gilbert and SAG National
Executive Director/CEO Greg Hessinger sent the letter to CAEA
Executive Director Susan Wallace and said the Guild would
ask all its members not to audition or accept work with the
Blue Man Group's Toronto production. The entire text of the
letter read:
"We
are deeply concerned about Blue Man Group's unacceptable decision
to mount a nonunion production in Toronto while refusing to
negotiate a fair contract with Canadian Actors Equity Association.
Without equivocation, Screen Actors Guild stands firmly behind
CAEA as it tries to bring this intransigent producer to the
bargaining table.
"As
a show of support, the Guild will formally ask all of its
members not to audition or accept work with the Blue Man Group's
Toronto production-until CAEA is able to negotiate an acceptable
contract.
"We
understand this is a crucial struggle for your working members
and request that you keep us updated on all developments.
Please let us know if Screen Actors Guild can provide additional
assistance to CAEA regarding this matter."
