Dear Susan
Wallace:
I received
your correspondence regarding the Blue Man Group Boycott and
I brought it before my Executive. The Executive unanimously
endorsed the boycott and the following will be communicated
to the members of District 12 Toronto, Secondary Teachers
Bargaining Unit.
Boycott Blue Man Group
Blue Man
Group is an American theatrical producer which is planning
to mount shows at the New Yorker theatre. Despite the efforts
of the Canadian Actors Equity, the Toronto Musicians
Association and two locals of IATSE (International Alliance
of Theatrical Stage Employees), the group has refused to sign
an agreement that would ensure protection for fees and other
compensation, hours of work and overtime, insurance and RRSP
contributions and other areas of working conditions. This
refusal to deal with the unions undercuts local producers,
as well as showing a disdain for the many people who work
in the entertainment business in Toronto.
The District
12 STBU Executive asks all of its members to boycott the production,
set to start later in the spring, until the producer signs
on to an agreement with Equity members.
I wish
you success in your efforts.
Yours
in solidarity,

Doug Jolliffe
President
Secondary
Teachers Bargaining Unit
District
12, Toronto
